ACCESS
TO UTAH STATE CRIMINAL RECORDS
To
find out if an
individual has a criminal record in the
state
of Utah we check the state repository, the relevant
county criminal court records, and civil
court records.
Twenty-seven
(27) of Utah's twenty-nine (29) counties allow
public access to criminal records by mail, phone
or fax. If the county, or counties, specified can
only mail records back to us then there will be an
unavoidable delay in processing the record
request.
In contrast, the state repository allows
access to its records only to criminal justice
agencies, individuals seeking a copy of their own
record and others specifically authorized by law
to access.
Felony records and civil case filings
involving amounts of $20,000 and more are filed in
the District Courts. Circuit Courts handle
misdemeanor records and civil case filings
involving amounts of under $20,000. In many
counties, these (2) courts are housed within the
same building. In some counties there is no
Circuit Court. Where there is no Circuit
Court, cases normally handled by that court are
handled by the District Court for that county.
Davis, Salt Lake and Weber County have more than
one (1) Circuit Court.

|
| The
Utah State Repository limits access to any
criminal charges or arrests.
|
|
| Signed
release is NOT required. |
|
| State
records contain information submitted to the State
of Utah from each county and other criminal
justice agencies. Records are updated daily. |
|
| Records
are available for convictions dating from 1930 to
today. Prior to 1930, searches can be
conducted by Federal or County records. |
|
| Cost is
$30 per individual searched statewide and $20
per county. |
|
| Delivery
Time: Turnaround time is approximately 14-16 business
days. Results are e-mailed to you, or faxed on
request. We cannot guarantee turnaround time as we
are dependent on the state getting back to us in a
timely fashion. If the county, or counties,
specified can only mail records back to us then
there will be an unavoidable delay in processing
the record request. |
