MAINE

ACCESS TO MAINE STATE CRIMINAL RECORDS

To find out if an individual has a criminal record in the state of Maine we check the state repository, the relevant county criminal court records, and civil court records.

The Maine State Repository limits access to Felony and Misdemeanor convictions ONLY.
Signed release is NOT required.
All sixteen (16) counties in Maine allow criminal record searches by phone or mail. If the county specified can only mail records back to us then there will be an unavoidable delay.

There are seventeen (17) Superior Courts, one in every county except Aroostook which has two. These Courts hold felony records and misdemeanor case in which a jury trial was held. Also held in Superior Courts are civil case filings involving amounts of less than $30,000. Some counties have more than one District Court with several courthouses in which cases may be filed. Each District Court Clerk has access to records from all cases at each courthouse. To ensure that a thorough  record search is done, the request should specify that the search includes all courthouses within the district.
Records are available for convictions dating from 1937 to today.  Prior to 1937, searches can be conducted by Federal or County records.
Cost is $22 per individual searched for a statewide search and $20 for a county criminal.
Delivery Time: Turnaround time is approximately 3-5 business days. Results are e-mailed to you, or faxed on request. We cannot guarantee turnaround time as we are dependent on the state getting back to us in a timely fashion. If the county specified can only mail records back to us then there will be an unavoidable delay.
