What are Civil Court Records?

Civil Court Records are records of municipal, county and state level civil court cases that have either been filed or brought to trial. These represent disagreements between corporations, governmental bodies, private citizens and other organizations. These cases usually revolve around property damage, personal injury, liability suits, negligence, tenant-landlord, employer-employee conflicts, personal rights, contract disputes, evictions etc.  The civil court record databases are just one way to discover if an individual or a company has been involved in any litigation. For a description of the basic procedures involved in a simple civil court case, click HERE.

There are other types of court records that are stored at the state and county level. For a very brief overview of these other court records, click HERE.

Federal Civil Court Records: While most legal disputes between private parties are settled in state court, the federal courts provide a forum when the case involves alleged violations of federal statutory or constitutional rights.  These cases are initiated by individuals, businesses or governmental entities seeking monetary damages, requesting injunctions to stop allegedly illegal or pursuing some other remedy provided by law.  >>Order
